Couples counselling involves working with both halves of the unit to achieve mutually agreed upon goals; overcome roadblocks to connection and communication; learn to resolve conflicts and be effective and supportive partners; increase understanding, empathy and appreciation; work through experiences of disappointment or betrayal; build trust and respect; find ways to grow together instead of apart, meet each other’s needs and enhance the quality of the relationship.
Therapy would mostly involve joint sessions with both partners, interspersed with individual sessions to support each partner as needed. In couples counselling, the priority is the relationship rather than individual agendas, with unbiased and fair support provided to both partners. Mahima is trained in Gottman’s couples therapy and uses that as her base framework.
