“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
Hypnosis is a deep state of relaxation wherein access is available to our subconscious mind. The subconscious mind stores all our memories, thoughts, feelings, belief systems and experiences. Hence, it is the seat of the underlying causes of most if not all emotional, behavioral and psychosomatic/physical issues. Therefore, resolution at the subconscious level heals the issue from its core enabling long lasting change and relief.
Typical media representations of being ‘controlled’ by the hypnotherapist, not remembering what happened during the session or divulging deep dark secrets against your will are inaccurate. Clinical hypnosis feels similar to a guided meditation and you can be guided into the hypnotic trance stateonly if you are willing. Your conscious mind remains aware and the therapist guides you through healing exercises using visual imagery and other processes. The state of hypnosis is experienced differently by each person, though is most commonly described as deeply relaxing.
